Moving to Amsterdam (Part 02/02)

In part 01 of this writing series, I wrote about my journey of quitting my previous job in Indonesia and relocating to the Netherlands. It was unexpected, yet it brought so much new learnings and self-reflection that can be useful for anyone who is considering to work overseas but does not know where to start.

In this article, I will be uncovering the last three parts of the journey: relocation, moving day, and starting a new life.

  1. Relocation

The moment I accepted the offer, I knew that my future would be unpredictable, and I would have to figure things out as I went through each process. In short, I would start almost everything from zero: finding a place to stay, building a new friends circle, looking for communities, and adjusting to new working environment.

Relocation was a long arduous process, consisting of a long lists of documents and to-do. For my full relocation to the Netherlands, I went through several stages consisting of:

  • Working Visa, immigration, and tax: thankfully my employer provided me with a service agent to assist in taking care of the visa and 30% ruling application, all I had to do was just filling, scanning, and submitting documents…
