Life before being a Product Designer

The younger self of me might be quite surprised, knowing that at this point, the older me has become a Product Designer. Not because it is a product designer, but the career journey that I’ve experienced from day zero until today, has no relation whatsoever with this profession.

Curiosity brought me to a lot of places, especially at that stage in life where you tried to define your life purposes and what do you want to do for the rest of your life if you had to choose one. I thought, how do I choose one if I haven’t even experienced a little bit of everything? And so i did.

I started my career early when I was still in senior high school, simply because studying math and physics bored me to death and I wanted to do something else. I remember taking side jobs as piano teacher, math teacher, even a chinese percussion player after my classes and experienced working for the first time. I liked it. Despite the involvement of money, I felt that it was really fun and rewarding — doing what you like and getting money from it.

During university, I got introduced with design world and what can you actually do with that sets of skills. I took more side jobs as graphic designer, art director, wedding videographer, wedding photobooth owner, scriptwriter, account executive, and assistant…
