Frequently asked questions part 01: starting a career as a Product Designer

This FAQ series consist of several parts where I summarised the most-asked questions during online/ offline mentorships and speakerships into a bite-size Q&A articles. In this first part, I will be writing about starting a career as a product designer. I also linked some of my previous writings/ web recommendation/learning materials for some of the topics.
If you are a fresh graduate, or someone who is interested to shift your current career to UX, or someone who is looking for UX job, then this is for you.
Please note that all these answers are my personal and professional opinions, based on my real-life experiences. But don’t hold this as your absolute truth and basis for decision making — personalise these answers to fit your circumstances. Here we go:
- Is it possible for non-design/ tech/ psychology major to start a career as a product designer?
It is! I believe UX is a combination of a lot of subjects in the industry, making it more like a social science rather than a hard sciences. UX does not focus on theory but more like an understanding, so I believe everyone can be a product designer.
